Can 1300HP blower motors comply with J2005 noise regulations?
We were approached by Jason Saris of Performance Marine in New York on the possibility of putting a pair of blower motors down to 89dB. We knew that if we said we could do it, it would be the biggest test for the Extreme muffler since its development. The question was, could it be done? We'll let Jason tell the story. Graham, as you know, last year we were faced with a daunting task, how can we make Jim DeNooyers 32 Skater "King Sting" legal for boating on Lake George, NY. The boat itself has twin 557 cid. blower motors, Whipple Quad rotors, Pontiac heads and makes 1300HP at 7200 RPM's. It has been clocked at 168mph and still climbing. Here on Lake George the New Year state db. limit of 90db measured one meter from the transom as required by SAE J2005 is strictly enforced. With Stellings big tube headers I wasn't at all sure we could ever be able to reach the legal noise limit and almost positive we would have to compromise some performance. Thanks to your superior engineering the results have exceeded all of my expectations. At 89-90db. as per SAE J2005 the boat is completely legal. These tests were not only performed by us at Performance Marine but also by the local law enforcement angency with the same results. After swapping our open tailpipes with the muffler pipes I am pleased to report that there is no notice- able change in power output or boost level. Simply amazing. Without your efforts and technology, I think there would have been another 32 Skater for sale. President, Performance Marine Before you purchase your new boat ask for GGB Extreme mufflers integrated into the system. They're built to last. Jim DeNooyers 32 Skater King Sting.
